Humboldt County is located on California's northern coast, with the city of Ferndale situated about 300 miles north of San Francisco and 100 miles south of the Oregon border. Most of our visitors choose to travel to the Redwood Coast by car to enjoy the spectacular scenery all around us.

Driving time from the San Francisco Bay Area is five or six hours of spectacular scenery through Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt Counties.

EXPLORING FERNDALE

Within walking distance from the inn, you will enjoy browsing through the historically preserved Victorian shops that offer many unique works of art, antiques, and memorabilia from the past. The entire village of Ferndale is a registered historical landmark and is an inspiration for artists and photographers alike as well as a delightful shopping experience.

Avenue of the Giants

A driving tour you won’t want to miss, this 27 mile scenic route will take you through the largest groves of Redwoods in the world.

Fern Canyon

A magical walking tour through a spectacular fern-lined canyon with a prehistoric feel that was used in the filming of Jurassic Park.

Adjacent to Fern Canyon are many miles of well-groomed trails used for walking, hiking and/or mountain biking. Majestic Roosevelt Elk can be seen throughout the park. Picture Perfect!

Russ Park

Located on Grizzly Bluff directly behind the inn, Russ Park offers miles of easy and intermediate hiking trails with an abundant variety of plant life such as fairy bells, milkmaids, and the Siberian candyflower as well as beautiful views of Ferndale reaching all the way to the ocean.

Patrick’s Point

A 640 acre park in the heart of redwood coast country which features panoramic ocean views, Agate Beach, Wedding Rock, and the Yurok Indian Village.

Redwood Empire Golf Course

A pristine 18 hole course set in the hills of the redwood forest. Many deer can be seen on this challenging course. A Gingerbread Mansion concierge with help you set a tee time.

Trinidad

Trinidad is sleepy coastal town with a picturesque setting, a Memorial lighthouse, and an abundance of sea stacks. A scenic drive offers numerous small beaches, coves, and tidepools to explore.

Centerville Beach

Centerville Beach, located only 5 minutes from Ferndale gives you the feeling that you discovered your own private beach. With miles of shoreline to explore, soft sandy beaches to walk along, and panoramic views, Centerville Beach also offers a bounty of wildlife to view.
